Therefore, in 2018 Dept. of Forensic Science and Criminology, Madhurai Constituted a study committee worked on the Strategies of starting Forensic Science Dept. in Tamilnadu and submitted a report to the Dept. of forensic science and criminology. Based on the viability and the need of having such unique Department dedicated to impact training in the field of forensics.

Crime Scenario is rapidly changing at global level. The latest technology is used by criminal to commit techno-crimes affecting every common man in the society. A common man is encountered by crime in every walk of life. In developed countries there are several institutions imparting Hi-tech Forensic training and producing professionals in this field_ However, in developing country like India, it is a need of hour to have such Institutions. Keeping in mind, courses has been designed by highly professional members and academicians to train the students and to produce expert professionals, who in turn apply the scientific knowledge and techniques in Crime investigations. The product of this Institute will successfully meet the need and challenges or various agencies involved in crime investigations namely police, forensic scientists, medico-legal doctors_ judicial officers, media personnel, journalists.

Forensic Science is a multidisciplinary and applied science_ Forensic Science can be defined as the methods of science applied to public mailers. Today the term means the applications of all basic sciences to criminal justice systems. The basic sciences like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer science, Psychology, etc. are utilized to identify and compare physical evidence in the investigation of the crime The term “Forensic’ is derived from the Latin word “Forensis” which means related to court of law, discussion arid debate in public related to laws, hence Forensic Science can be broadly defined as the scientific discipline which helps the criminal justice system by analyzing the crime articles in identification, Individualization and evaluation of the physical clue materials using the principles and methods of all naturalsciences. Forensic science includes many domains like anthropometry, fingerprint, footprint, ballistics, documentation, forensic biology & serology. Forensic is chemistry, drugs & explosives, forensic physics, toxicology, odontology, forensic DNA, cyber forensic, forensic psychology, forensic engineering which provide a full proof scientific aid to criminal justice administration.
